It is I WhyWhyWhy --- 13 years ago -

What if the moderator for a thread was the creator of the thread? At least give the person who starts the thread the ability to delete comments they feel are unacceptable. If you don't like it you can start your own thread!

I think its a smashing idea!

I started a thread about it and others seem to agree. Would this be something that would be possible? Can we try it and see if it will work?

Kara --- 13 years ago -

That's a nice thought, but many people (as they do now) would get very upset if the moderator went in and changed what they posted.

I am thinking that it would create more chaos than good.

thanks

It is amazing how over the top people have become. IT IS AN INTERNET SITE! WHO CARES!!

Suggestions are good, keep them coming!

How about a like button for comments?

We can always spin off of Happy's suggestion.

I like this idea if it was tweaked a little bit. like keep the over all mods but give the creator of a thread the power to delete comments off their own thread. not edit delete. I say keep the over all mods for the purpose of deleting threads that need to be deleted, comments that the poster of the thread didn't delete that needs to be deleted and comments that need to be edited.

this is a possibility, but i think if the idea was tactfully introduced to the underground it may be a great change. what if you ask the other undergrounds what they think of this idea?

How about a like button for comments?

I know a lot of people on PU want this, lol.

Kara - is PU any closer to a PU Live? Still no hurry on it, i was just wondering what came of the idea :)

Kara --- 13 years ago -

I have been side tracked for a bit, sorry about not getting back to you sooner.

PU Live, will talk to Adam.
Thanks for reminding me about the Like button, I forgot to ask him about that.

Stay tuned...

^^^ can't edit after a hr :( I wanted to update my reason why i think this would be a good idea :)

I like this idea if it was tweaked a little bit. i think keep the over all mods but give the creator of a thread the power to delete comments off their own thread. not edit delete. i think it would be a nice addition to the UGs. And PU is mostly upset because they think/feel they don't have a say in what is moded, this would give them at least a say in what is posted on their own threads. I think keep the over all mods for the purpose of deleting threads that need to be deleted, comments that the poster of the thread didn't delete that needs to be deleted and comments that need to be edited. so if some one starts a i hate So&So thread an over all mod could delete the thread and/or ice that person.

Some thoughts on this:
So if a user/creator of a discussion is given the [delete comment/edit discussion] abilities of the current mods, is not every user that creates a discussion now a mod?

And then the regular mods would become "mega mods" for handling only that other stuff?

So then, what are the "rules" (guidelines) for why the discussion creator would delete another user's comment(s)??
Profanity?
Bizarre rant?
Opposing views or opinions?
Their user name is odd?
Their profile pic is not pretty?
That user made me angry last month on another thread. ?

What are those "acceptable" reasons for deleting an entire comment?
Who is going to write this list of acceptable reasons for comment deletion?
Who is going to "enforce" this list and the unbiased use of it by all "discussion creator mods"?
If only a portion of the comment is not "liked/wanted" by the creator will they have to delete the whole comment?
If a user who had a comment deleted keeps posting on a thread, and that thread creator has to keep deleting their comments, how many deleted comments are required before a mega-mod is asked to step in. And what action will that mega-mod take?

Will that "many comments deleted" user have to be warned each time a comment is deleted?

If a user has many comments deleted on various discussions, will the mega-mod have to send that user to something like an 'ice box'?
What will the name be for that place where those users are sent: Chill Cooler? Refrigerator? Delete Dungeon?
Once they are sent 'there' are they banned from posting comments for 3days on all discussions, or just on those discussions created by the users that deleted their comments previously?

Where is the mod action history list for all these deletions going to be posted? It has to be posted, right? That way the community can see how many comments are deleted and from whom they were posted by.

Please think about these, there may be some great ideas and answers to all these.
Most likely there are more questions and scenarios which need to be addressed.

Just a Mod of their own thread.

And then the regular mods would become "mega mods" for handling only that other stuff? this made me lol.

So then, what are the "rules" (guidelines) for why the discussion creator would delete another user's comment(s)??
Profanity?
I guess that would be a 'Mega Mod' job, because the thread creator wont be able to edit comments.
Bizarre rant? If the thread isn't a personal attack then it would be ok. if it turns to a personal attack then the thread creator could delete the comment or a 'Mega Mod' could Ice the person doing the attacking.
Opposing views or opinions? if the thread creator doesn't want that on their thread they could delete it, and the person with a different opinion could start a new thread.
Their user name is odd?
Their profile pic is not pretty?
That user made me angry last month on another thread. ?

^^^ for those three a 'Mega Mod' would have to step in and tell the thread creator they are abusing the system and if they don't stop a iceing will take place. (handle it the same way when flag comment is abused)

What are those "acceptable" reasons for deleting an entire comment?
Who is going to write this list of acceptable reasons for comment deletion?
Kara/Adam by reading this thread of ideas/tweaks :)
Who is going to "enforce" this list and the unbiased use of it by all "discussion creator mods"? 'Mega Mods' will have to, just like the other rules.
If only a portion of the comment is not "liked/wanted" by the creator will they have to delete the whole comment? They could ask/pm a 'Mega Mod' to edit the comment.
If a user who had a comment deleted keeps posting on a thread, and that thread creator has to keep deleting their comments, how many deleted comments are required before a mega-mod is asked to step in. there could be a similar rule like the flag rule. From IceBox Page: When a certain number of users have flagged a user as stirring the pot in a given period of time (e.g. 7 times in 7 days), then we will automatically put that user in the "ice box" (for 7 days), where they won't be able to post. And what action will that mega-mod take? the 'Mega Mod' will have to decide if the comments deleted where just or not. [then warn the deleted comments person to ether make a new thread or they will be iced for un-wanted comments (O_o not to sure about this one, lol)]

Will that "many comments deleted" user have to be warned each time a comment is deleted? If the creator of the thread wants to warn them they can.
If a user has many comments deleted on various discussions, will the mega-mod have to send that user to something like an 'ice box'? depending on what is going on then yes. the 'Mega Mod' will have to use their best judgement on that issue.
What will the name be for that place where those users are sent: Chill Cooler? Refrigerator? Just IceBox Delete Dungeon? lol
Once they are sent 'there' are they banned from posting comments for 3days on all discussions, or just on those discussions created by the users that deleted their comments previously? I think "just on those discussions created by the users that deleted their comments previously?" is a great idea.

Where is the mod action history list for all these deletions going to be posted? On the IceBox page maybe O_o It has to be posted, right? That way the community can see how many comments are deleted and from whom they were posted by. Yes, it should be just like or similar to how the Mod/'Mega Mod' history is. 'Mega Mods' should see what was deleted so they can use their full judgement but 'Non-Mega Mods' can only see something was deleted just not what the comment was.

Please think about these, there may be some great ideas and answers to all these.
Most likely there are more questions and scenarios which need to be addressed.

I think that the problem with this idea is that you will have people deleting stuff all the time, creating more chaos, and more threads. Users are going to want to start all the threads so that they can control them.
