I am from the Pendleton Underground. We had a serious issue with porn spam... and not your every day porn. We also had a spammer posting dead bodies etc.

None of us could do anything about it because our MODs were inactive. So finally we had our elections have 10 mods that are known.

I am one of them. Our mods including myself dont delete anything. We asked what people wanted deleted, and they said just the porn and opsec violations or personal info. Which is all we do. Or we icebox spammers. We don't icebox or delete anything else.

What exactly are the Mods on your sites deleting that you don't like? We usually like to keep the trolls for entertainment sake. 

Here at KU, for a short while, the mods would ice somone and automatically deleted ALL of the posters comments from 12 hours until the point they were iced. This has since been changed...and our Mods can ice someone and then have the choice to delete their comments or not.

On LU one particular MOD will delete comments when they've iced someone unfairly. IMO if that person were iced fairly their comments shouldn't be deleted, they should stay so others could see what they said to be iced.

Also on LU one of the MODS will ice anyone they "think" is a troll, when it may just be a new poster.

And I agree about the trolls being entertainment, sometimes I get a good laugh out of them. 

That delete comments from previous 12 hours was because of Pendleton underground's spammer. Within the 30 seconds to put he/she/it in the icebox, the whole site was flooded with 1000's of porn spam, which we all had to delete manually. Adam did it that way so it would help us out in removing the content.

We don't icebox anything else, so I guess I never thought that it would be a problem for people who get iceboxed on other sites.

They ice for personal attacks against other posters, gross pictures, and they ice for "profanity"...ugh. That's a new one and it's annoying. We have a profanity filter and some words are not filtered out, like "damn and hell"..and the other day, someone was iced for saying "damn straight!" It was ridiculous.

One guy got iced for calling a MOD a liar. It's out of control. We have a bunch of mods who are friends in real life, were some of the worst offenders before voted in as mods, and it's now a huge power play for some of them.

It's made A LOT of drama on the board...BUT, now that the "hide comments" option is available, hopefully, things will calm down. We shall see.

It wasn't me. I have another poster who is a witness who was on the thread and can vouge for me. I have sent Adam PM's pleading with him to take a look. In the end, it's only three days, so it's not that big of a deal. But you know, man, sometimes you have to stand up for principle.

There was also another poster (Mystry) was released because of another "mistake" so I don't understand why I was penalized.

Oh, that is just down right lame. Personal attacks as long as they don't post pictures of the person they are attacking or name drop info like addresses and phone numbers, stay. Only the picture or info is deleted and the person is definately not iceboxed.

If one is iced for profanity then everyone who uses profanity should be iced, that's only fair.
ON LU some of the MODS will ice only certain people for profanity but won't ice their friend for profanity, that's not fair at all.

I agree with icing for porn and spamming the boards.

LU also has a one MOD that was one of the worst offenders in using profanity when someone didn't agree with them, they would lash out at them and then get their little "clique" to come in and follow suit. IMO the only reason that person was made a MOD is because people that hadn't posted on that LU in a long time came back and voted for that person, otherwise they would have never been voted in.

Then you have the MODS that antagonize people just to get a reaction out of them and when that person posts something the MOD doesn't like they ice them and delete their comments. When I see a person that's been iced and I go to read the comments and see they've been deleted that tells me they've been iced unfairly.

I completely disagree. When attacks start bringing in people's spouses or kids and they're getting ganged up on by multiple people, the attackers should be iced. That's harassment and it shouldn't be tolerated.

There's a difference between having a heated argument, staying on topic and getting personal and nasty with someone. A lot of folks know one another because it's a community board, so a lot of the BS that happens on there carries over into real life. It's lame.

Again I agree. I always like a good two sided discussion without all the name calling etc, but as we all know there are those that can't do that, they want to start with the name calling as soon as someone has a differing opinion than they do. That's when the ignore feature is going to come in handy.

That's one reason when I do post over there nor do put any of my personal problems/stuff out there.
I post on many forums and also moderated a very large one for quite a number of years and very little is known about my personal/family life and that's the way it should be.
On the board that I moderated we didn't have an ice box, all we could do was edit or delete comments but then we had to go to the "mods corner" where we would put the deleted comment and the reason we deleted it and an admin would review it.


I know of other boards that don't have any MODS, they just let the board community self moderate, and if a person
starts posting personal stuff about others the board community will say something, it seems to work fine on those boards, but I guess that's because the posters are a little bit more mature than they are on LU.

Probably because he had some Mod friends take his case to Adam. On KU it is all about who you know. 

We have threads locked becasue a Mod doesn't like the direction it might go. These are my favorites, lol. Our Mods have ESP.

Wow, I didn't want to believe this, but I think you are correct. I am on KU Live, have tried to chat with Adam, he has ignored me....have sent him PM's and he continues to ignore me. so, for those of you who believe Adam is a "fair person" who "stands up for what's right"--I am sorry to disappoint you. That is NOT the case. 

Maybe he found you pm's to be invalid? I mean come on people! This is just a forum!

You keep saying it's just a forum....that is obvious. There is a principle involved here...can't you see that? I was iced by a mod who either made a mistake or was trying to do so on purpose. By deleting my posts, I have no way to defend myself.

And I know what I posted and what I didn't. If you were innocent of a charge, I'm sure you would be trying to clear yourself as well. 

Just wondering why one would be so beyond upset about it? It's like just sit there and come out and ask. To me you are somewhat ramming this issue into the ground, maybe the mod (seeing on mod screens there is a billion buttons now) did make a mistake? Who cares? It's a forum. This runs along the lines of why I cannot understand how people can get their feelings hurt over the internet. Just log out people! 

If you think for a minute everyone and anyone who gets iced can run to adam and want the story as to why, that won't happen. He fixed the feature now where the reason will show. So, there you have it. If you ever get thrown in there again your reason will show. 

Being unable to post for three days is not the issue. I was accuSed of posting a porn video...I have never done this. So you think I should what?...sit here and accept a judgment that was incorrect.

You have no idea what the word principle means, I see that now.

I see where you are coming from. Just the fact that some of the most flagrant bullies are now sitting in judgment of others was enough for me to lose respect. The position should be earned by proven ability to abide by the terms yourself before given any authority over other people.

I'm sorry you're feeling bad about it, it sucks to be accused of something you didn't do, but, if adam hasn't responded, there's nothing else you can do.

I did read it. No reason to be snarky. If he/she makes a thread about it they will be iced again most likely.

When things are not balanced it leads to people's mistrust and frustration even over small, incidental things that probably otherwise would be ignored.
It is the inability of some to not recognize this concept that leads to the disenchantment by otherwise very rational people..the very kind of people one would hope to attract to a forum.

Fantabulous obviously thinks if this didn't actually happen to them, then it must not matter. Go look up the word principle, you might finally get it. See you all in about one day (or less).
